Lucinda Williams schrieb diesen exzellenten und wunderbar ironischen Song und veröffentlichte ihn auf ihrer CD Lucinda Williams von 1989. 1992 wurde Passionate Kisses für Mary Chapin Carpenter als Bestandteil der CD Come On Come On zu einem Riesenhit.

Seither tobt in den Fangemeinden der Streit darüber, welche Version besser ist.

Zeit für mich, auch meinen Senf dazu zu geben.

Thema des Liedes ist die Leidenschaft. Und die ist bei der Carpenterschen Cover-Version in reichlichem Maße vorhanden, während die Williamssche gemütlich und nicht sonderlich erregend vor sich hintrabt. Sorry Lucinda: du hattest die Idee mit den leidenschaftlichen Küssen, und dafür gebührt dir tausendfacher Dank, aber hier hat dir jemand anders die Schau gestohlen.
